Unlock your reader’s full potential with the Down Syndrome Association of Northern Virginia’s (DSANV) returning interactive reading initiative, based on the groundbreaking book Phonics the R-IGH-T Way for Children and Adults with Down Syndrome.
We are thrilled to welcome back instructor Cheryl Zimmerman to host and lead this program. Designed specifically for individuals with Down syndrome and other intellectual or developmental disabilities, this course breaks past the limits of traditional sight-word memorization. While conventional phonics can leave struggling readers confused, this program introduces a tailored sequence of explicit, multi-sensory instruction that makes reading accessible, engaging, and effective.
What to Expect
Targeted Phonics Instruction: Learn why whole-word memorization falls short and how step-by-step phonics creates independent decoders.
Practical Strategies: Gain tools parents and educators can use on the go, anywhere learning happens.
Lifelong Impact: Build a strong foundation for independent reading, academic growth, and future opportunities—because it’s never too early, and it’s never too late.
Support: Includes direct, virtual check-ins with Cheryl to keep your reader on track and supported throughout the session
Who Should Participate

The foundation of the 321go! program is a set of 3 goals and 21 challenges that encourage a daily focus on overall wellbeing. Resources for the program provide education, support goal setting, and foster independent skills.
This program is intended for adults with Down syndrome and their caregivers.
