Learning Together: DSANV Introduces New Programs for Parents and Families
At DSANV, we believe that when families are empowered with knowledge, confidence, and community, individuals with Down syndrome can thrive at every stage of life. This fall, we’re proud to introduce two new educational programs designed to support parents and caregivers in practical, meaningful ways — from early learning to literacy and lifelong independence.
Family Learning Lab (PreK–Elementary)
Second Saturdays | September–June | 8:30–10:30 a.m. | Chapel Springs Church, Bristow, VA
The Family Learning Lab equips parents with practical strategies, expert insights, and community connections to help their children ages 3–12 thrive. Each month, parents gain tools and knowledge to strengthen learning, independence, and advocacy — while their children enjoy free on-site childcare, allowing parents to fully focus on learning and connection.
Led by instructor Melissa Miller, this pilot program features monthly workshops covering a variety of topics:
September 13: Behavior
October 11: Curriculum & Pacing Guides
November 8: Social Skills, Self-Regulation & Sensory
December 13 (Virtual): Executive Functioning & School Readiness
January 10: Literacy
February 14: Communication & Extended School Year
March 14: Specialists (PT, OT, Speech, ABA) & Resources
April 11: Self-Advocacy, Independence & Transition
May 9: Numeracy
June 13: Toileting & Sleep
Families may register for the full series at a discounted rate of $180 or attend individual sessions for $25 each. Every topic stands alone, so parents can attend monthly or select sessions most relevant to their needs.

DSANV Reading Program: Phonics the R-ight-t Way
September 2025 – June 2026 | Burke Centre Library + Virtual Sessions
The DSANV Reading Program is a 9-month literacy pilot designed to help parents teach reading to their loved one with Down syndrome (ages 3 and up). This innovative program uses the Raising Robust Readers curriculum and provides families with hands-on resources — including lifetime access to the online program, the Phonics the Right Way for Down Syndrome book, and the FUN-O-Guide learning tool.
Families meet monthly at Burke Centre Library for in-person workshops, supplemented by monthly virtual sessions. The program’s blend of expert instruction and community support empowers parents to build stronger literacy foundations at home.
Registration for the 2025–2026 Reading Program is now closed, but we look forward to sharing future opportunities as the pilot continues.
