Welcoming DSANV’s New Executive Director, Alain Noriega

Welcome Alain Noriega

The Down Syndrome Association of Northern Virginia (DSANV) is thrilled to welcome Alain Noriega as our next Executive Director. Alain’s passion for our community, lived experience as a DSANV parent, and strong leadership background — including an MBA and extensive experience in operations, strategy, and team development — make him an excellent leader for DSANV’s next chapter of growth.

Alain has been connected to DSANV for many years through community events, programs, and volunteer support. His perspective as both a parent and a community builder aligns closely with the priorities outlined in our recently shared Strategic Plan, especially our focus on expanding reach across Northern Virginia, strengthening family connections, and increasing revenue to support long-term organizational growth.

In Alain’s own words:

“I’m honored to serve as the Executive Director of the Down Syndrome Association of Northern Virginia (DSANV), an organization that has been close to my heart for more than a decade. My journey with DSANV began through volunteer work, where I spent over 10 years supporting events, programs, and families in our community. Those experiences shaped my passion for advocacy, inclusion, and service — and ultimately led me to this incredible opportunity to lead.

My wife, Elizabeth, is a Spanish teacher at Virginia Academy, and together we’re blessed with three amazing children — Adriel (17), Valerie (15), and our beautiful daughter Janella (11), who has Down Syndrome. Janella’s light, joy, and determination have inspired our entire family and strengthened my commitment to helping every individual with Down Syndrome thrive in a world that celebrates their unique gifts and abilities.

Before stepping into my role at DSANV, I built my career through leadership positions at Target and Community Church. At Target, I developed a strong foundation in organizational strategy, team building, and operations management. At Community Church, I had the privilege of serving as a community leader, helping to create spaces of connection, purpose, and growth. Both experiences taught me the power of teamwork, empathy, and leading with heart.

At DSANV, I’m passionate about bringing families together, strengthening partnerships, and expanding opportunities for individuals with Down Syndrome. I believe in leading with joy, compassion, and integrity — and in working side by side with our incredible families, volunteers, and partners to build a more inclusive, connected, and uplifting Northern Virginia community.”

What’s Ahead

Alain officially begins on Monday, November 17, 2025, and will enter a focused transition period centered on:

  • Engaging with families through DSANV programs and events, including our Holiday Ugly Sweater Celebration.

  • Building alignment with staff, board leadership, and community partners as we prepare for a strong start to 2026.

  • Reviewing operations, communications, and program standards to support clarity, consistency, and organizational strength.

  • Driving key areas of our Strategic Plan, including revenue growth, regional expansion, and strengthening the family experience across all DSANV offerings.

Because this transition involves detailed administrative setup and program immersion, Alain will have limited availability through the end of the year. Time-sensitive inquiries will receive a response within three to five business days, and we appreciate the community’s patience as we move through this important handoff.

A New Chapter for DSANV

As we look ahead, we also want to express our sincere appreciation to Heather Padgett, who served as Executive Director during 2024 and 2025. Heather’s leadership strengthened DSANV’s foundation through new programs, improved operations, and expanded partnerships. Her work positioned the organization for the growth and momentum we are building today, and we are deeply grateful for her dedication.

Please join the Board of Directors in warmly welcoming Alain Noriega as he steps into this essential role — and in thanking Heather Padgett for the incredible work that brought DSANV to this exciting moment.
