Anne Custer believes in creating space for those with Down syndrome and their families to experience friendship and community together. She has spent her adult life in Northern Virginia and lives in Fairfax city with her husband and three children.

Anne first connected with DSANV in 2020 after her youngest daughter received a birth diagnosis of Down syndrome. She has been blessed to find a group of like-minded parents with whom to discuss the many joys and challenges of raising a child with an extra chromosome.

She spent more than a decade covering US news for an international media organization, including time as a White House correspondent, before stepping back to care for her children full time. She is active in her church community, where she led a group for mothers for several years, and regularly volunteers at her kids' schools. When not chauffeuring children to school, activities and therapies, Anne loves to read, travel and explore Washington's cultural activities.
