DOWN SYNDROME ASSOCIATION OF NORTHERN VIRGINIA (DSANV)
Calling All Volunteers!
The Global Down Syndrome Foundation (GDSF) is coming to town to host their second annual AcceptAbility Gala in Washington, DC on May 22, 2019 at the Hilton Washington DC National Mall. The Gala is a fundraising event in support of the Global Down Syndrome Foundation funding life changing research and providing lifesaving medical care for children and adults with Down syndrome.
DSANV is partnering with GDSF to provide volunteers to assist with the event setup and to provide Greeters during the event to serve as Global Down Syndrome Foundation ambassadors.
Greeters must be at least 16 years of age, be self advocates (individuals with Down syndrome), must be comfortable learning some basic facts about GDSF and sharing them with guests and, as a group, must reflect the diversity of the National Capital Region.
Tickets for the Gala are $1,000 each--$500 for parents of a child or adult with Down syndrome. For each of the eight Greeters, the Global Down Syndrome Foundation will provide one complimentary ticket for a parent or chaperone (additional tickets are available for purchase).
Individuals interested in serving as a Greeter/Global Down Syndrome Foundation Ambassador at the AcceptAbility Gala are encouraged to write to Mary Ford at Mary.Ford@dsanv.org to request an application and then submit the completed application along with a current photo (required) by April 13, 2019.
Since there is a significant monetary value associated with the Greeter/Ambassadors, a panel of reviewers external to DSANV will review all applications and select the 8 individuals based on the criteria defined by GDSF. Announcements will be made by the end of April for the May 22 event.
