POSITION    Program Assistant
STATUS    Hourly
REPORTS TO:    Executive Director (ED)
LOCATION    DSANV Office – Oakton, Virginia



Work Schedule:  Up to 20 hours per week during normal business hours with some night and weekend hours, as needed, to support DSANV programs and events

Travel Required:  Local travel will be required to attend some DSANV programs and events and occasionally to pick up donated or procured items in preparation for a program/event

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Program Assistant (PA) will work with the Executive Director, and the DSANV Board of Directors, to plan and execute educational and social programs for individuals with Down Syndrome and their families.

  • Assist the ED in scheduling DSANV programs and events for a given fiscal year ensuring required financial and volunteer labor resources are available to support each
  • Working with the ED, develop a Program Plan (template to be provided) for each DSANV program/event scheduled; maintain the approved Program Plan and all associated documentation for each event in a shared location as directed
  • Research and contact vendors to solicit in kind donations and to get quotes for products and services DSANV needs to purchase for DSANV events
  • Help promote DSANV programs and events with members and register members for upcoming activities
  • Help train and supervise volunteers and/or interns
  • Attend programs and events, as needed, to help register participants on site and/or to assist instructor/activity leader
  • Communicate status of all in-process programs and events to the ED on a weekly basis and support status data calls as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • Project management training or experience, or event planning experience
  • Formal education in health, behavioral or social sciences or training or experience in working with individuals with intellectual disabilities
  • Intermediate level of experience using Microsoft Office suite of tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with or supervising volunteers
  • Experience using social media in a business setting
  • Dual English and Spanish language fluency
