Director of Business Development

Status:           Half-time Temporary Position

Reports to:    DSANV Executive Director

Location:       10467 White Granite Dr., Oakton, VA and remotely

Effective:       July – December 2021

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: responsible for engaging current and prospective members, donors, sponsors and grantors to maintain and increase the total amount of donations made to DSANV on an annual basis. Specific duties include:

  • Donor management – work with staff and volunteers to continue to increase the number and quality of communications with current and prospective donors; document these communications in a donor management system; attract additional donors, and to increase the number and amount of recurring donations made to DSANV
  • Sponsor management – identify and communicate with potential corporate and organizational sponsors to increase sponsorships; document sponsor communications; and for events, follow up with sponsors afterwards to ensure DSANV delivered on all promises and to solicit feedback
  • Grant writing – monitor the grant database for applicable grant opportunities, research grant targets, document relevant grant target data to include organizational POCs and application deadlines, work with staff and other volunteers to prepare grant applications and provide status information on grant activities as needed
  • Fundraising campaign support – work with staff and volunteers to help design and execute focused fundraising campaigns of various sizes; collect data, communicate with participants, plan social media communications document progress and report status
  • Fundraising event support – work with staff and volunteers to plan and execute new fundraising events, help plan large community events that include fundraising

Required Qualifications:

  • Education and/or experience in one or more aspects of business development (e.g., fundraising, grant/proposal writing, donor management) for nonprofit organizations or corporations
  • Advanced social media marketing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • This position is open to individuals of all abilities

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting business development for a non-profit organization
  • Experience populating donor management databases/systems and creating reports from them to facilitate decision making

Director of Family Support

Status:      Half-time Temporary Position
Report to: DSANV Executive Director
Location: 10467 White Granite Dr., Oakton, VA and remotely
Effective: July – December 2021

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: responsible for engaging new and existing DSANV members to answer their questions and provide information to assist families with challenges related to receiving a diagnosis of, or welcoming a new child with, Down syndrome and with other challenges experienced across the lifespan.

Three principle areas of responsibility include:

  • Family Support Services – serve as a peer mentor responding to calls, texts and e-mails with questions from families about all aspects of living with Down syndrome and obtaining needed supports
  • Community Medical Facility Outreach – interface with points of contact at local area hospitals and medical clinics to offer DSANV services to new parents receiving a diagnosis or welcoming a new child with Down syndrome
  • New Parent Programming – manage quarterly DSANV New Parent Breakfasts (NPBs) and distribute New Parent welcome packages

Required Qualifications:

  • Education or personal experience working with families of a child or adult with Down syndrome
  • Advanced knowledge of a variety of long term services and supports, and the application processes for each, to include Medicaid, Social Security, Special Needs Trusts, and guardianship for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Experience with Special Education services in one or more northern VA counties to include Individualized Education Planning
  • Experience working through medical and dental challenges, and engaging speech, physical and occupational therapists
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge/experience working with families/schools/medical community in more than one northern VA county
  • Proficiency in more than one language
