Self-Advocate Intern

Number:  Up to two (2) positions available
Status: Volunteer
Report To: DSANV Programs & Activities Manager
Location: DSANV Office – Oakton, Virginia
Effective: Four Month Period; Rolling Start Date

Work Schedule:  Flexible schedule; 4 – 12 hours per week

Travel: No travel required; may choose to travel to attend off-site events

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Self-Advocate Intern (SAI) will work with the Programs & Activities Manager (PAM) and other DSANV interns, to plan and evaluate DSANV educational, social and self-help programs for individuals with Down syndrome and their families

  • Assist DSANV in planning self-advocate programs
  • Assist in analyzing the effectiveness of self-advocate programs
  • Assist in managing participant rosters and other data for all DSANV programs and events
  • Attend programs and events, as desired
  • Work with other DSANV interns to provide other support to the organization

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge/experience with programs/activities for individuals with intellectual disabilities
  • This position is open to individuals of all abilities

Programs & Activities Intern

Status: Volunteer
Report To: DSANV Programs & Activities Manager
Location: DSANV Office – Oakton, Virginia
Effective: Four Month Period; Rolling Start Date

Work Schedule:  Flexible schedule; half time support during normal business hours (to include telework); note: most DSANV programs and events are scheduled at night and on weekends

Travel: Local travel may be needed to attend DSANV programs and events -based on a flexible schedule

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Programs & Activities Interns (PAIs) will work with the Programs & Activities Manager (PAM) to plan, execute and evaluate DSANV educational, social and self-help programs for individuals with Down syndrome and their families

  • Assist the PAM in planning and executing programs
  • Help identify, collect and analyze participant satisfaction/impact metrics for all DSANV programs and events that can be used to analyze the effectiveness of programs and to prepare grants to facilitate and expand program offerings
  • Provide assistance to grant writing efforts
  • Assist the PAM in populating a Program Plan, and Final Report, for each DSANV program/event
  • Attend programs and events, as needed, for training and to support data collection efforts
  • Collaborate with self-advocate and other interns to develop materials, communicate with DSANV members and provide other support for DSANV programs and events

Required Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with behavioral or social science data collection and analysis
  • Intermediate level of experience using Microsoft Office suite of tools
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities
  • Dual English and Spanish language fluency
