The Campership Fund of the Down Syndrome Association of Northern Virginia is designed to provide an opportunity for members who wish to attend a summer camp or recreation activity that benefits the individual with Down syndrome AND who are not able to do so due to financial needs. Camps/Recreation can include but are not limited to sports and leisure activities/lessons, Easter Seal camps, speech camps, OT camps, social skill camps, or other camps where an individual with Down syndrome is included. This fund is not restricted to special needs camps/recreation. The Campership/Recreation Fund is not intended to provide funding for direct therapy services.
Camperships/Recreation Funds are available to individuals with Down syndrome from Northern Virginia. Northern Virginia is defined by DSANV as Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, Stafford and Fauquier Counties and the Cities of Fairfax, Alexandria, Falls Church, Manassas City and Manassas Park.
Eligibility is based on the participant’s benefit of attending the camp/recreational activity. Amount awarded will be determined by the Board of Directors. (Funding may cover only a portion of Camp/Recreation Fees).
All applicants must provide a medical diagnosis of Down syndrome prior to the disbursement of the award.
To Apply
Applications must be received via e-mail or postmarked by the May 1, 2019 deadline.
Funds may only be used for camp or recreation registration fees.
All funds will be distributed on a reimbursement basis. Evidence of expenses (receipts) and attendance document must be submitted prior to funds being distributed. Receipts must be received 30 days after the end of the camp or recreation service in order for reimbursement to be made. Reimbursement will not exceed the funding amount approved.
DSANV’s Board of Directors will make funding decisions.
These rules shall be interpreted in a flexible manner to accomplish the purpose of this fund. Any rule(s) may be waived by the Board of Directors of the Down Syndrome Association of Northern Virginia.
