DSANV was originally founded as MOMS in 1972. In the early 80s, the name was changed to PODS. In 2004, we became the Down Syndrome Association of Northern Virginia. In the past three years, we have grown to a $300,000 organization with staff, extensive contacts with other disability-related groups in Northern Virginia, extensive contacts with Down syndrome affiliates like ours all around the country, including in the rest of Virginia, an office, staff and events and programs throughout the year. Our biggest accomplishments have been our Buddy Walks, attended by 1500 people, our golf tournament, our laundry list of educational events, our support for new parents and our advocacy efforts on behalf of self-advocates.
